Legal Panel 1: Child Abuse Prevention: Recognition, Reporting, and Response (1.5 hours)
Protecting students begins with awareness, timely action, and a clear understanding of legal responsibilities. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of mandatory child abuse prevention and reporting requirements, focusing on how trustees, educators, and school staff can recognize signs of abuse and neglect and fulfill their reporting obligations. The session will also address what comes after a report is made to CPS, law enforcement, and SBEC, examining how to navigate overlapping investigations, legal obligations, and operational challenges. Topics include investigative protocols, coordination with CPS, law enforcement and SBEC, and employee management considerations during pending investigations.
This session counts as mandatory continuing education on identifying and reporting potential victims of sexual abuse, human trafficking, and other maltreatment of children in accordance with TEC, §11.159(c)(2).
Legal Panel 2: The 89th Legislative Session in the Courts: What School Leaders Need to Know (1.5 hours)
The Texas Legislature’s 89th Session produced several high-profile education laws that have generated significant public attention and legal challenges. This session will provide an up-to-date overview of litigation involving key legislation affecting public schools, including SB 10 (Ten Commandments displays), SB 11 (Time for Prayer), SB 12 (parental rights and DEI-related provisions), and SB 13 (library materials and book selection requirements). Panelists will report on the current status of pending lawsuits, practical issues raised by the challenges, and the potential implications for school districts as these cases move through the courts. Attendees will gain insight into compliance considerations, implementation challenges, and strategies for managing legal risk while navigating evolving legal requirements.

Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO)
Focused and engaged school boards make a difference in student learning. This research-informed session will highlight practices and tools to help boards understand the current state of student learning, cast a compelling vision with meaningful goals, and oversee the improvement efforts in their districts.
Trustees must complete this 3-hour training within 120 days of election or appointment and then every two years. This session focuses on strategic leadership, goal setting, and measuring student success.
The Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO) training is provided in accordance with Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements. As a TEA Authorized Provider, TASB must document attendance and ensure compliance with all training requirements. Participants must attend and actively participate in the full three-hour session to receive EISO credit. Late arrivals, extended absences, or early departures may impact eligibility for credit. TASB staff may monitor attendance and participation throughout the session to ensure compliance with TEA and Authorized Provider standards.
